Winter learning journey

Activity 2: Let’s imagine that you were able to meet one of the following three athletes competing for New Zealand at the Rio Olympics:

Lauren Boyle: Lauren is a swimmer from Auckland. She typically competes in the 400m and 800m freestyle races and, in the 2012, finished in 4th place at the London Olympics (just one spot away from winning a medal)! This will be Lauren’s third trip to an Olympic Games. She is the most successful swimmer in New Zealand sporting history. To learn more about Lauren you can read her biography at: http://www.olympic.org.nz/athletes/lauren-boyle/

I would choose to meet Andrea Kilday because his sport is Taekwondo.

The athlete that I am talking about is Gayle Broughton,She played rugby,If she wasn't playing rugby she would be a tattooist. Voted Taranaki Women's Sevens Player of the Year 2015,this Hawera 20-year old is one to watch in Rio.

Winter learning jouney

Bonus: This year two sports are being reintroduced into the Olympic Games. They are golf and sevens rugby. Imagine that you worked for TVNZ and you were paid to travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Olympic Games and report on the golf and/or the rugby competitions. On your blog, write a poem that describes how you would feel about travelling to Rio. Would you be excited? Would you be scared? How would you feel?

If I would travel to Rio I will feel happy because I like travelling to other places. And I would be excited but I will be a little scared because I would be there alone with no one I know. But I would feel excited.

Winter learning journey

Activity 1: Visit the website for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Click on the name of the one of the sports that is listed on the main page. If possible, choose one that you have never heard of before and read about it. After reading about the sport, post a short description of it on your blog. The post must include:

  1. The name of the sport
  2. The aim of the sport
  3. Two rules for the sport

the name of the sport that I chose was rugby.Although the fifteen player version of the sport appeared at the Olympic game between 1900 and 1924.the aim of the sport is to always try to get a try and to always try to kick it in the goal post. And the two rules in rugby will be to never fight and never knock the ball on.

Bonus: It is time to get creative! For this bonus activity you are asked to design a simple logo for the next Summer Olympic Games. They will be held in Tokyo, Japan in 2020. The Olympic committee in Japan has already created four possible options for the logo (see below) but I think that you can create something even more interesting and attractive!

this is my design that I made made with shapes and other staff.

Activity 2: Rio de Janeiro, the host of Olympic Games this year, is a huge, vibrant and dynamic city. Perhaps the most famous landmark in the city is a large statue of Jesus called ‘Christ the Redeemer’ that sits on top of a hill overlooking Rio. Here is a picture of the statue:

Sky tower-it is located at Victoria St W & Federal St, Auckland 1010 and it is famous because you can View the city from 220 metres high above street level.

Bay of islands -the bay of islands is located the Bay of Islands encompasses 144 islands between Cape Brett and the Purerua Peninsula and includes the boutique towns of Opua, Paihia, Russell and Kerikeri and It is famous because it is nice to go in the holidays.

Auckland zoo-the Auckland zoo is located at Motions Rd, Auckland 1022 and is famous because you can see diffrent animals at the zoo.

Activity 1: The mascots for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are Vinicius and Tom. They can be found on all of the advertisements for the Olympic Games and they have also been featured in a number of videos.

Vinicus and Tom finding a place to stay

first Vinicus and Tom moved to the jungle. They looked for a place to stay so Vinicus  found a log and went inside he log when he l was l lying down a caterpillar fell on his head so went out of the log and started running around. Then Tom saw a tree trunk so he went and laid down inside it.Then there was a owl inside it got angry so it chased him out. Then when Vinicus and Tom was running they both bumped into each other. Then Vinicus picked up a small tiny house so Tom noded at Vinicus then he grabbed the little house and got out a little horse toy. Then Vinicus ran to a lake and pointed at it.So Tom got some tools out. Then picked up a log and threw it on the ground then it broke and Vinicus catched all the broken pieces then threw them on the ground and it just stood up.Then Tom got a bow and shot some things to the window. Then Vinicus threw a sharp frispy to cut some leaves t,hen they did a hand shake. After that they went to sleep in side the tree house they made but they were uncomfortable so they slept outside.

Bonus: During the ancient Olympic Games, men were allowed to compete in the events but women were not. In fact, women were often forbidden from even watching the games. In your opinion, is this a fair rule? Why or why not? On your blog please tell us what you think about this interesting rule.

I think that this rule is fair because some of the girls might distract the men trying to win.

Activity 2:  In the ancient Olympic Games the winner of each event was called the Olympionic. Instead of a gold medal, the winner had a palm leaf placed in their hands and a crown placed on their head to show that they were the winner. Arguably one of the most famous Olympionics was a man named ‘Milo of Kroton’ (see picture below). Use Google to research ‘Milo of Kroton’ and post three interesting facts about him on your blog.

It was his five-time wrestling champion from 62nd to 66th Olympiad.

One of the most legendary athletes in the ancient world.

He was born in southern Italy.

Winter learning journey

Activity 1: Let’s imagine that you were alive 2792 years ago and invited to compete in the first ever ancient Olympic Games. Which of these events: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon would you compete in? Click on the name of the sport and it will take you to a site that tells you about the sport. On your blog tell us which sport you would choose and why you chose it.

I would of chose boxing because Muhammad Ali is my favourite boxer I because I like watching him fight.
