Activity 1: Fantastic Beasts [4 points]
In New Zealand we have many unusual animals. One of the most unusual is the kiwi bird - a bird that does not have wings and can not fly. Pretty strange, eh?! J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has recently written a new book about strange or unusual animals called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’
For this activity, please watch this cool book trailer. Year 7 and Year 8 students in South Auckland, New Zealand helped to make it. Once you have watched the video, use your imagination and create your very own beast. What does your beast look, smell, feel, and sound like?
On your blog, post a description of your beast. Use interesting adjectives (describing words) to tell us about your beast.
Hairy/Fury, Short, Angry, Red Eyes, Sharp Claws, Pointy Ears, Sharp teeth, Fast, Brown Fur, Dog Looking, Wide, Breathes Heavily.
Good morning Laki,
ReplyDeleteI can see that you've made a great start to thinking about your beast. It is always a great idea to brainstorm many adjectives (descriptive words) before you start to write a story. Can you please turn these words into sentences and tell us more about your beast?
You could think about questions such as:
1. What is your beast's name?
2. Where does your beast live?
3. What does your beast eat?
4. What does your beast look like?
5. What does your beast smell like?
6. What sound does your beast make?
7. What does your beast feel like?
I am super excited to read your description of the beast! If you do enjoy drawing, maybe you could use Google Drawing to create a simple illustration of your beast as well :D
Talk soon,
Susie
Hi Laki,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on completing this activity. You did well on starting to describe what your beast will look like. What would you name your beast? Also, maybe next time you could make a drawing or find picture of what you want your beast to look like. Keep up the good work.
